Abstract:

Materials and methods. 51 patients, who were ill with generalized peritonitis, went through a prospective randomized research. They were randomized on groups depending on the objective score SAPS (1984): 29 survived people (53%) and 22 people with favorable end (47%). Intensive care and surgical tactics standardized patients. Lactoferrin (LF) as modulator of systemic inflammatory response (SIR) was assessed by immunoferment analysis. Statistical processing was done McNemar test. Results and discussion. In initial condition dynamics of this laboratory marker defined a group with favorable end as patients with granulocytes activation . On the first 24 hours level of LF was marked twice above values of second group (95% confidence interval (CI) 1670-2024 ng/ml; p<0.05). Then content of LF was increased for certain in highest limit of rate (95% CI 1104-1310; p<0.001). LF level in group with nonfavourable end was remained in lowered figures. It was differ with such in group of comparison for certain (95% CI 811-921 ng/ml; p<0.05). This situation can be explained as repression of nonspecific resistance on repeated effects of endotoxins. Positive connection of LF indices with facts of SIR (r=0.457; p<0.05) can serve as proof of granulocyte’s activation in group with favorable end .

Abstract:

Background. The current study tested netrin1-as a reliable inflammatory marker of periodontal disease. Methods. Gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) samples were taken at baseline from 30 systemically healthy individuals. Fifteen subjects had stage II grade A or B periodontitis, and 15 were periodontally and clinically healthy. Whole-mouth periodontal parameters [probing depth (PD), clinical attachment loss (CAL), plaque index (PI), and gingival index (GI)] were recorded. The GCF samples were recollected, and clinical parameters were re-recorded after six weeks following full-mouth scaling and root planing (SRP) in the periodontitis group. Results. Netrin1-GCF levels were significantly lower in periodontitis patients than periodontally healthy individuals at baseline, with a significant increase in netrin1-GCF levels after SRP (P<0. 05). Conclusion. Netrin1-may have a significant role in the inflammatory process of chronic periodontitis, thus, it could be a promising anti-inflammatory marker in periodontal disease.

Abstract:

Objective: Vasectomy, though in some cases are being confronted with irreversibility, has been accepted as an effective contraceptive method. It is estimated that near 2-6% of vasectomised men ultimately show a tendency to restore their fertility. In some cases, vasectomy has been considered as an irreversible procedure due to many post-vasectomy complications causing this debate. The aim of present study was to investigate the pattern of expression of galectin-3, an inflammatory factor secreted by macrophages and immune cells, following the vasectomy in mice testis tissue.Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, twenty mature male Balb/c mice, aged two months, were divided into two equal groups: sham and vasectomised groups (n=10). They were sacrificed four months after vasectomy, while the pattern of galectin-3 expression was investigated using a standard immunohistochemistry technique on testicular tissues. Stereological analyses of testes parameters in vasectomised and sham-operated groups were compared by mixed model analysis. Results: Based on observations, although galectin-3 was not expressed in sham-operated group, it was expressed in 40% of testicular tissues of vasectomised mice, like: seminiferous tubules, interstitial tissues and tunica albugina. Also, our result showed a significant alteration in number of germ and sertoli cells of testicular tissue in vasectomised group in comparison to sham-operated group. In addition, the result of mixed model method confirmed a significant reduction in germ and sertoli cells of vasectomised group. Conclusion: The expression of galectin-3 at different parts of testicular tissue in vasectomised group is higher than sham group. This express illustrates the increase of degenerative changes and inflammation reactions in testicular tissue, leading to chronic complications and infertility, after the vasovasostomy.

Abstract:

To evaluate the association of systemic inflammatory marker levels in macular edema with serous macular detachment (SMD) secondary to retinal vein occlusion (RVO). Methods: Patients diagnosed with RVO were categorized into two groups based on the presence or absence of SMD: Group 1 included 30 eyes with SMD, while Group 2 included 30 eyes without SMD. Levels of neutrophils, monocytes, lymphocytes, thrombocytes, and mean platelet volume (MPV) were analyzed. Systemic inflammatory markers, including neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), were calculated and compared between the two groups. Results: The mean neutrophil levels were significantly higher in Group 1 (P = 0. 002). The mean lymphocyte, monocytes, thrombocyte, and MPV levels did not differ significantly between groups. NLR and SII levels were significantly higher in the SMD group (P = 0. 004 and P = 0. 016, respectively). There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of PLR. The optimal receiver operator characteristic (ROC) cut-off value of NLR for SMD was calculated as 1. 55 with 73% sensitivity and 63% specificity (area under the curve [AUC] = 0. 714, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0. 584–0. 845). The optimal ROC cut-off value of SII for SMD was calculated as 451. 75 with 63% sensitivity and 63% specificity (AUC = 0. 681, 95% CI: 0. 546–0. 816). In this study, branch RVO was present in 48 patients, and central RVO was present in 12 patients. Neutrophil, MPV levels, and NLR, PLR, SII ratios were similar between patients with branch and central occlusion. Conclusion: Neutrophil levels, NLR, and SII were found to be significantly higher in eyes with SMD secondary to RVO.
